After my nearly a month of midwestern winter with no weekend escapes, I’ve learned there is nothing more satisfying a more-is-more attitude towards light and color. NOTHING.
So, imagine my delight when I find the opportunity to photograph LA-based musician Saia Amouris in her cool DTLA music studio- and while no, it was not photographed in the lemony sunshine with palm trees galore, it was everything I needed for the looming grey-induced seasonal affective woes that had been creeping in this January.
This being said- holy moly. I have long-shied away from studio settings and color light, having committed myself to natural, outdoors sessions. Why? I have no idea why. But I do know that once I got the color lights on, I barely reached for the regular ol lights because of my newfound (aforementioned) more-is-more attitude towards color.
Beyond a colorful session, one of the highlights of this session was spending time with Saia– a long-time beloved friend of mine, and honest-to-goodness Aquarius weirdo and entire powerhouse vocal talent. Her energy is infectious, her laughter is iconic, and she’s forever the epitome of cool. You can and absolutely need to check out her music on her SoundCloud here.
Anyway. Here’s some photos of this absolute badass.
